Duquesne University quitting the realest sport

This may not be good news for the East Region Wrestling...

Duquesne University recently announced that will discontinue its wrestling program after this season

Are there any other programs who might slide into that spot?

There has always been talk of a few PA Division 2 schools moving up but cost of travel is the main concern for all Universities in todays economy.

My guess is it may be time for Liberty to move to a better league. Then the question is always which one will take you in...

I'll claim very little expertise on this subject, but ...... I think the East Regional is not a "league" per se. NCAA D-I wrestling has a west regional and an east regional as a NCAA tournament qualifier process for those teams that are Independents.
While there are stipulations that govern "leagues" or "confereneces" (must consist of at least 6 teams, etc), the East Regional is not bound by those stipulations. Thus the east (or west) Regionals could have just 4 teams .
I have heard that Southern Ill is joining the ER next year. We might also see a PA school move into D-I and join the ER ... so maybe perhaps talk of the ER being closed down is a little pre-mature?

Realest sport is a song my son's wrestling club plays during warm ups! It is a rap by TP and Esco- they were wrestlers in high school and thought wrestling needed a song...
It was really a joke by me and that is all.
