Oh, I wasn't speeding either. When I came home, I took the 501 from Old Forest up to Boonsboro and only went 35. But when you're going 12 (yes, it was exactly 12), you're just begging for an accident. Not to mention you need a little speed to get up hills so you don't slide down on them.

Let's just be smart out there people.

And here's a banana smilie, just because

I don't know how many of you have antenna TV, but i was watching 10.2 last night and Jeff H. was giving the weather. He interrupted his thing to say " the rumor mill is flying all over that we are going to get 30 inches of snow, i can tell you now that is not going to happen...(chuckle).

Once again, areas from Roanoke to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City will be in the heart of the storm. These locations have already received two to four times their normal snowfall so far this winter.

While the storm will start off with wet snow, it will transform to a blizzard as winds increase, drawing cold air farther and farther south. A freeze-up and blowing and drifting will become a problem for the second half of the storm as a result.

Storm starts Friday between 6am-8am and should produce 3-6' on Friday alone during a 18 hour period. As Rocket suggested Sat should be very interesting but I wont get that one until tomorrow.

Since it'll be snowing, we've decided to white out the Vines for the PC game on Saturday night.

7000 students snowed in with nowhere to go. What better excuse to go to a basketball game is there?

No it wasn't. The last time we did it was a Tuesday night against Winthrop in 08. There were a ton of people there in white. The problem was is started sleeting at 5:45 that night and no one came out.

We were also playing the team that won the league that year. We likely would've lost either way.

My favorite part of that was Sch14 painted completely white.

What I don't get is why the LUnatics switched from white to red at halftime??????

Oh yeah, latest models have colder air over Roanoke and Lynchburg, so snowfall totals may be higher. WSET is predicting 6-10" as of 6 PM.

We were either losing or tied at halftime and we were way too superstitious so we switched to red.

This is storm is putting a huge dent in my plans! For the first time in forever, I don't have a game down here to cover... I was planning on going to WF at UVA and then see us spank the hoes around on Sat... Looks like there will be no home games for me this year... I guess I'll catch Winthrop tomorrow night on DVR since I will be at Cameron for GT and Duke.... O wait a minute... I have Time Warner Cable... After 4 years they haven't settled with MASN yet... Time Warner Cable you still SUCK and always will!!!

These forecast's are changing by the minute. The report the airport receives has increased the total accumulation by 5 inches within the last hour....some reports are calling for it to be big again and some saying only 6''....I think the truth lies in the middle....should be interesting

I heard a report over the radio:

"We're going to get anywhere between a dusting to 100 feet of snow, and it will start sometime between midnight on Friday and midnight on Sunday."

The Roanoke blogger Kevin Myatt is predicting 12-14 inches for the 460 corridor based on the fact that colder-than-expected air is in place right now, which will increase snowfall and decrease sleet.

I've looked at this a little too much over the past 3 days (I've got a cross country race in VA Beach on Saturday morning that is going to suck big-time due to 3 inches of rain and 35 mph winds). Based on what I've seen from several sources, I'll bet you guys get between 8-10 inches.

By the way, Roanoke has received more snow this year than Fairbanks, Alaska.

My guess:

Closed tomorrow Delay Wed

Storm starts at 5-7am on Tuesday and ends 5-7am on Wed. 90% chance for 2" 60% for 4"

Having a delay on Tuesday wouldnt make much sense since it will be worse as the day goes on, a delay on Wed makes sense because it will give crews a few hours to clear the main roads

On the 460E offramp to Candler's Mtn Road (just past LU, the left-hand exit), there's some dude in his Grand Cherokee stuck on the other side of the guard rail. I have no idea how he could have gotten there. There are no tracks, he's nowhere near where the guard rail starts or ends, the jeep's not flipped over, and he's still in the car. It's just odd.

It just doesn't make sense. There was nothing to delay for this morning.

I was figuring they'd close school early, but opening it late didn't make much sense. I was hoping the 2 hour would turn into something else, like a closing, but that's not happening either. Instead, we got a 2 hour delay, and now I'm going to have to go to class in the snow (not an issue, since the weather really isn't bad enough to merit anything, just seems inconsistent, doesn't it?)

The agency I work for closed today. I'm not sure exactly what time the decision was made, but I'm pretty sure they're regretting it right now. Could have opened as usual and then closed early if necessary. Now we lose a whole day of services and will probably have to open late tomorrow too.

LU announcing a late opening at the beginning of a snowfall is puzzling. One would think things will get worse before they get better.

That's because you're using the least accurate weather site out there. Use Wunderground or Accuweather, neither one gives more than a 1/3 chance of snow any day in the near future.

That's always the case for that far out. It's like the map that had VDOT, LPD, Airports scrambling saying we were going to get the snow DC got...it was only a 20% chance b/c a lot could happen between now and then.....you'll see those % firming up the next few days and about 1 1/2 days out you'll see totals start to appear in the forecasts on Wunderground
