Greatest LUnatic Performance

Postby Schfourteenteen » October 27th, 2009, 11:43 pm

I've had this discussion with Leo and I think it merits a post over here. Some of you will only be able to go off of recent games, but give me the three or four best LUnatic performances youve seen. That means getting into player's heads, making a difference in a game, etc.

Here's mine

1) Football vs. Presbyterian, 2007 - The top game begins and ends here, IMO. The invention of Kelsey Goss, Larry's Love Line, Grayson Mullins loving his dog a bit too much, Bobby Bentley reading "Coaching Football for Dummies" 40 minutes before kickoff.

2) Men's Basketball vs. VMI, 2007-2008 - I will always put this higher than anyone because I'm proud of it. Duggar's aweatervest, Dugger kicking the John Deere sign, Duggar Baucom's wife crying, Larry's Better, I got in a fight with a 55 year old woman.

3) Volleyball vs. Cal @Duke, 2007 - For the sheer fact that the minute we showed up the Ladies picked off a set from Cal, a team that would later reach the Final Four. TTL loving on Morgan Beck. I had my crush on Kat Reilly. I can always be her big bear....baby. Thank you Enrique.

Adding a couple more...

CSU Basketball 07-08 "Typical Liberty" as a result of "Transfer Omar". "I've got a dollar" song was started.

CCU Basketball 07-08 "Always Box Out With Protection" sign, plenty of other box out jokes.

Presby Basketball 07-08 "Presby had a little lamb"

Coastal Football 09 "Row Row Row Your Boat"

You could even hear that one from the Baptist side.

You guys have mentioned some good ones. I've gotta add a few more, most of which set the foundation for The LUnatics:

CSU football 06: this is when the blown up picture was first brought up. I had Colin Draft's girlfriend on a sign and he played his worst game of the season. I even had the girlfriend sign the picture.

Happy Valentine's Day Pt 1: This was the first time we brought out the pictures vs Winthrop. Once again, we got a picture with the guy on the sign after the game.

Larry's Love Line: This was part of Kelsey Goss, but having his phone number spread over the entire stadium was awesome.

I Am Kristen Hutchens: This was the predecessor for Kelsey Goss. If it wasn't for this one, I never would've been able to do Kelsey Goss.

Credit Cards 07: Tusculum's starting quarterback had been involved in a stolen credit card ring. We had about 1000 kids holding up credit cards, had large credit card cutouts, and did the first ever "Convict" chant in this game.

William & Mary 07: Yes, the result sucked. However, we went in there with 7-8 students and completely took over their stadium.

A few more:

TBGBG getting yelled at by Coach Jones from Nyack (Liberty alum) when the two of us were the only two in the student section.

Virginia Tech fans trying to get us kicked out of Cassell because we were cheering better than them and Liberty was giving Tech a game. They tried to say we were cussing and things like that. Bob Good and Kevin Keys were sitting right next to us. We didn't get kicked out.

We did the Tyler Baker chant when he was in street clothes and we were in the nose bleeds at UVA.

Coastal football 07 - Some kids got in early and got our seats so we were forced to go down a section. During the first half of the game, I took a step back and heard the entire student section doing the You Can't Do That chant without us starting it. That's when we knew the students were finally starting to get it.

Rushing the field at Gardner-Webb with Dwayne Carson and Steve Lloyd.

Driving to Campbell in 07 in the pouring rain where we couldn't see 15 feet in front of us.

I Dated Ashley Hill - This was the first game where we used Myspace to get stuff on players. One of G-W's guys had a sister named Ashley, so we made a sign about it.

Charleston Southern 07 - We confiscated our first football at this game.

UNCA Conference Tournament 08 - TBGBG turns to me and says, "If that girl in the front row over there doesn't stop running her mouth I'm gonna go crazy." I look over, find who he's talking about, and say, "I went to high school with her." During the next time out we start chanting her name and she has no clue how we know who she is.

Coker 07 - Shrek and Donkey.

Niagra 07 - We were all over a guy all game and he threw his arm sleeve in the stands after we won.

I don't remember who we were playing (maybe Tusculum?) but we got the big FU from a trainer.

Typical Liberty ranks high up on my list, as well. I don't think any group of 15 people ever got under a coach's skin more than that night.

We were good.

We were really good.

I hope the group this year can be just as good if not better.

Glenville state 08 it was the d-line coach. the guys all behind that bench started screaming and yelling at the D-line after the came off the field and the coach was trying to talk to his players and couldn't talk over the yelling. he looked straight up at us and said shut the F up. really loud it was hilarious cause we just got louder after that.

I have two more that were the most fun to me.

High point last year come back victory with little time i think we were down like 15 with less than 5 left. we had so much fun that trip and then we went to Krispy cream afterwards.

VMI kicker in 07 when he lined up on the sideline and was practicing in the net we'd do the OHHHHH like we do on kickoffs and he caught on and faked us out after running up to the ball looked at us and laughed said "got ya!"

Nope, we def. got one from a female trainer. She had an extra-large friend and I think someone may have let her know.

Had to have been Stony Brook, right? That's the game that one of our guys got into it with Dr. Kerr.

I remember against Tusculum we had the dude on the bike that ate the macaroni at Golden Corral.

This was a bit before the LUnatics, but the "Sit down Joel" chant vs. Winthrop v-ball was pretty epic. 01-05

There was also Alvarez's "Shut up juice" vs. MD in Hockey at the ice station. (04-05) He single-handedly took the entire other team out of their game, from the stands. That was pretty epic as well. (Jeff Smale dropping 3 MD players at once didn't hurt either)

Another non-Lunatics example - the '08 BSC baseball tournament in Danville .. semifinal night between Winthrop(?) and LU .. pro-LU heckler behind the catcher had the pitcher all messed up .. pitcher's parents both went at the heckler .. I think mother may have dumped ice or water on the guy .. for about three batters, NO ONE was watching the game on the field.

Football vs. crAppy State (maybe Western Kentucky), 2002.

At halftime, a Liberty fanatic kicked a 40-yard field goal to win a truck.

(and at the end of the regulation, our scholarship kicker booted a 25-yarder wide... one that would have given us our first win over a top 25 school in a looooong time)

So what did the fans do to make that a greatest performance? Kick a field goal?
